Ralph Puchalski, Ph.D., Research Alliance Manager

Ralph Puchalski received his Ph.D. in oncology and biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1991. As a postdoctoral fellow in Stephen Heinemann’s laboratory at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, he demonstrated how RNA editing and subunit assembly regulate the function of native ionotropic glutamate receptors. Later, he led the cloning, mapping by in situ hybridization, and functional characterization of a novel potassium channel as a principal investigator at Monell Chemical Senses Center and as adjunct faculty of the Pharmacology Department at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining the Allen Institute, he launched research operations at Seattle-based Acucela, a clinical stage biotechnology company focused on developing new drug therapies for eye diseases. At the Allen Institute, Puchalski managed the team responsible for methods development and process engineering, and manages research collaborations.
