
Elaine Shen, Ph.D., M.B.A., Research Alliance Manager

Elaine Shen joined the Allen Institute in July 2006 and is responsible for managing and facilitating research collaborations. Prior to joining the Allen Institute, Shen held scientific and marketing positions in biotechnology and contract research companies. Shen's scientific background includes experience in behavioral genetics, QTL mapping, and gene expression profiling. As a product manager at a contract research company, she created and implemented strategic and tactical marketing programs for early discovery pharmacology and pharmacogenomics business units. Shen earned a Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience from Oregon Health and Science University, where she researched neural substrates and genetic architecture underlying sensitivity to alcohol's behavioral effects. She received postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco and the Institute for Behavioral Genetics, University of Colorado at Boulder. She also taught Physiological Psychology courses in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology, University of Denver. Shen obtained a Technology Management M.B.A. in 2005 from the University of Washington.
