Ralph Puchalski, Ph.D.

Research Alliance Manager

Ralph Puchalski joined the Allen Institute in 2004 to manage the team responsible for methods development and process engineering during the creation of the Allen Mouse Brain Atlas. In 2007, he joined the program management team to manage large-scale and collaborative projects, with responsibilities ranging from project definition and fundraising to project management and data analysis. Puchalski’s project leadership responsibilities include the Allen Spinal Cord Atlas, a genome-wide survey of expression patterns for genes expressed in the adult and juvenile mouse spinal cord, and the Ivy Glioblastoma Atlas project, a detailed survey of genes expressed in human glioblastoma. Prior to joining the Allen Institute, he led the cloning and functional characterization of a potassium channel at Monell Chemical Senses Center and the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Pennsylvania, and launched the research operations of Acucela, a clinical-stage biotechnology company.  Puchalski earned a Ph.D. in oncology and biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and studied glutamate receptors as a post-doctoral fellow at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies.
