Carol Thompson, Ph.D.
Program Manager
Carol Thompson joined the Allen Institute in 2004 and currently serves as the Program Manager for the Allen Developing Mouse Brain Atlas. As one of the first scientists to be involved in analysis of the Allen Mouse Brain Atlas project, her initial work used gene expression to define novel anatomical partitions. Other contributions to the Allen Institute included the planning, project management, laser microdissection, and scientific analysis for the Sleep Study, now a freely available public database focused on sleep and sleep deprivation. Thompson’s scientific background includes extensive experience with in situ hybridization and gene expression profiling techniques. Thompson holds a B.S. in biology from the University of Richmond and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied mammalian circadian rhythms and photoreception, including biochemical, molecular, and behavioral studies. Thompson received postdoctoral training at both the University of North Carolina and the Allen Institute.
