Amy Bernard, Ph.D.
Director, Structured Science
Amy Bernard joined the Allen Institute in 2005
and has served in both basic research and management capacities. With over 20 years of experience in laboratory research, she currently oversees the Structured Science department, which is responsible for developing methods and generating data in a high-throughput production lab environment. Prior to joining the Allen Institute, Bernard was a scientist at the University of Washington, where she used classical and novel screening strategies to identify genes that pattern sensory regions of the developing vertebrate brain. Bernard received her Ph.D. in genetics and biophysics from the University of Colorado, where she studied the posttranslational regulation of receptor tyrosine kinases involved in visual pathway signal transduction and control of cell growth. Her current research interests include the use of cutting edge molecular and genetic approaches to explore the transcriptional basis of neuronal cell fate determination and to investigate the structure-function relationship in brain development.
